There's a kind of romance in trips like that/those.

Grumbler, TO some degree. Also, that statement is a bit cynical - you’re not a romantic person, but your wife decided to book a trip to Capri to celebrate your next anniversary. You’d be ok sitting at home watching a movie and drinking beer, but to make her feel good, you say “(I guess) such trips are romantic to some degree...” Why, does this sound cynical you ask? (1) we don’t use SUCH as often as Russian uses ТАКОЙ. So when we DO use it, it sounds emphatic. In this case, the emphasis works to highlight “that kind of trip” as something you would never think to do - something foreign to your character. (2) TO SOME DEGREE/EXTENT is often used to concede (hesitantly) to something. [Your composition didn’t win in the essay contest] “I just read the winning essay. (I guess) It was interesting... to some degree.”

OK, you add it then

To be honest, I didn’t know if the original Russian post was cynical. So my comment wasn’t so much a lecture as it was a question.

It wasn't cynical to me at all, unless they went on like но я бы предпочёл поваляться на диване с баночкой пива.
Улий, мой вариант совсем никак?

Grumbler, I hope that mini lecture wasn’t too pedantic - I was only trying to figure things out.
