The only thing is убрать машину would imply they are talking about a car that blocks the way or something. The only version I'd stick so far to is было уже слишком поздно пытаться увести самолёт в сторону.

Very good, however I wouldn’t use пытаться. The element UP in this phrase makes it somewhat sarcastic and refers to theoretically DOING something as a complete scenario and criticizing it as a variant. Think of UP as БАЦ: было уже слишком поздно для чего-то типа «уведу самолет в сторону и бац - проблема решена!» I know this probably doesn’t sound natural in Russian, but I just want to let you know the function of UP in this context. It adds a sarcastic casual almost naive nature to the action proposed.

I think I got your point correctly. But «взял» doesn't always function as UP does.
Однажды/В один прекрасный день он просто взял и бросил семью.
Он просто вытащил/выдернул катетер (от капельницы и ушёл из больницы.
In the sentence in question взять и... sounds a little bit off for some reason.
Let me/us think.

Взял is perfect when we refer to doing something casually in the past as in
взял и ушёл.
As to взять и, you can use it in a couple of scenarios like это непросто, взять и всё начать сначала or попробуй взять и вывести самолёт из пике.
