Exactly. We mostly use it in questions and in the negative contexts: How often do you go there? I don't go there often. The same with much and many: how much do you have? I don't have much. How many do you have? I don't have many. In affirmative contexts we use "a lot," or "lots": I have a lot of records/time. I have lots of records/time.
