Как перевести? (ru-en)

как виглядит природа весной

Переводы пользователей (2)

  1. 1.

What does ... look like in the spring?

    Комментарий переводчика

We don't use the word NATURE the same way Russian does. We refer to the place as a natural setting. What does London look like in the summer?

Uly, will it be correct to say: "What is nature like in spring?"

⁌ ULY ⁍добавил комментарий 8 years ago

Grammatically is correct, but it's not anything anybody would ever ask. To us nature refers to the subject of study, for example, and not to the physical, natural environment of a place.

What's the scenery in spring? - may be that would be a more literal translation then?

⁌ ULY ⁍добавил комментарий 8 years ago

No, scenery is purely visual. We would just say What is it like there/here in the summer? Or What's the climate like here/there in the summer? Or even What are the summers like here/there?

I see. But the sense is lost then.

What is the sense? What do Russians refer to when they talk about nature?

Elena Bogomolovaдобавил комментарий 8 years ago

We talk about the beauty of nature, each season has its beauty

I see. The thing is that we talk about nature as a force. For example, when we see the devastating effects of a hurricane, we often say that "Nature is awesome." If we were to use a phrase like "the nature of this place" it wouldn't correspond to Russian природа, but to натура, клим. So I'm hard put to find you a direct correspondence with original Russian question aside from what I wrote above. I remember the first time I visited the state of Maine, it was in the dead of winter. My friend has a house on a lake and when we arrived I noted that there were trees everywhere, albeit bare at that time. I remember having this exchange: "What's it like here in spring when the trees are green and the lake is thawed?" -"Absolutely breathtaking." So I was basically asking your question - just without NATURE.

I see. Thank you! In Russian the word "природа" is very widely used for the description of the beauty of the landscape, environment.

I'll remember that. Thank you!
