Margarita, the thing is that the verb EXAMINE needs an object, so you could say “to examine teeth for caries,” but then CARIES is sort of a technical word (most people have never heard of it), so CAVITIES is more idiomatic. CHECK doesn’t need an object, so it’s a better choice in your translation.

It’s always a pleasure, Margarita))) You are correct - it’s transitive, but then so is CHECK. The difference is a matter of “valence” - CHECK can be used on its own and the object is assumed or implied; EXAMINE has to have an express object.
