Yasir, you can only take part in an event (in A competition (or in THE competition if talking about a specific event).
When we're talking about competition as a situation where someone is trying to become more successful than someone else (as in: There is competition going on in our class between three straight A students), then "competition" is uncountable and there will be no article. Here competition means "конкуренция".
