I'm not sure which interpretation is the right one, or maybe both. I'll defer to the natives on this one.

Elena, you need BEING A lawyer....
Thank you!
You got it. And what about my translations? Which one is intended by the Russian original?
A sentemce like this usually implicates that this particular profession is not just a job, it's a way of life etc. Учитель - это не профессия, это диагноз. It doesn't refers to a certain person.
Ok, good, then my lawyer sentence doesn’t apply - that’s more about the person than the profession. Thank you - I’ll delete it)
“Being a teacher isn’t a profession, it’s a diagnosis.”
👍
Uly, this implies a profession in general, working with the law, so I wouldn't say "his" profession. i think the ending of this sentence could be это образ жизни. As to "attorney" I'm always confused about what it means. If it can be related to a profession of a lawyer in general, then it's good.
Thank you, I removed that translation - it was just a guess. Attorney and lawyer mean the same thing, but in their professional life they prefer to be called attorney.
Профессиональный жаргон?
I guess “lawyer” has a bit of a bad rap, what with “lawyer jokes” and all.
Ага, спасибо.)
