Grumbler, I believe you've misinterpreted both your translations. (1) TAKE A BEATING means that something is tough and can WITHSTAND a beating, but hasn't necessarily taken one in fact. It's used adjectivally to describe something durable: This watch is made out of the strongest metals - it can take a beating and still keep accurate time. (=it can withstand being dropped, run over, rain, heat, cold, etc. and a lot more and still work)
(2) TAKE SOME BEATING = it's going to TAKE a lot to BEAT it: "Kawasaki's time in the race is a new record and the highest in 10 years of Olympic games - it will take some beating!" (=it's going to be difficult if not impossible to beat!)
I’ve taken a beating
Это было в таком контексте
I’ve taken a beating means that you have been through a lot (not literally physically beaten usually, unless that’s the context). It just means that you’ve experienced a lot of hardship.

Sorry, but I don't understand.
Your interpretation corresponds to 1. Mine - to 2 and 3 as well as to many other dictionaries.
(2) TAKE SOME BEATING = it's going to TAKE a lot to BEAT it: "Kawasaki's time in the race is a new record and the highest in 10 years of Olympic games - it will take some beating!" (=it's going to be difficult if not impossible to beat!)
I don't see any contradiction with my interpretation that is just more close to Cambridge's one.
I think I initially misunderstood your Russian translations. I saw быть хорошим and thought it was too simplistic, but now I see the part with трудно as part of the translation.
