Elena, "clear out" doesn't mean what you think it means. If anything, выяснить means to clear UP, but you don't clear up the meaning of something. You clear up a situation that doesn't make any sense. Clear out, on the other hand, means to empty a space. "After he was fired, they gave him two days to clear out his office."

I'll try: Если уж на то пошло, выяснить скорее clear UP (а не OUT). Однако и так не употребляется в смысле "выяснить, что значит что-то". Yes, you understood me correctly. If you want to "clear up" the meaning of a word, you normally "clarify" the meaning with a native or with a dictionary, for example.

Clear UP means that there's an argument or a dispute and has a somewhat negative context.
