Uly, I would never think about saying “scent the spring” myself but out of curiosity I’ve looked into my dictionary and it states that “to begin to feel that smth exists or about to happen very soon”. By the context you mean that it has to be an event or action, not spring or a season of a year, right?
Correct. If you look at the Ngram I published above, there’s no instance of SCENT, in any tense, with SPRING. Only SMELL.
