насчет статистики, здесь сравнивать нельзя.
Это примерно "как говорят" и "не зря говорят" - смысл немного разный

Абсолютно не согласна. «Говорят» и «не зря говорят» по сути одно и тоже, когда его добавляют перед идиомой, только второе экспрессивнее. Но как мы знаем, в английском это НЕОБЯЗАТЕЛЬНО аналогично. Если докажете свою правоту, я только рада буду. Просто мы иногда хотим перевести один в один, но увы...
