it is quiet hard to translate in english, because in the sentence all the pronouns are omitted and the only way to translate the word "дескать" is through the finite form of the verb "to say" - he says, she says. Also, I used direct speech, though it is not used in the original, as it would sound horrible - something like "he said that I should have a bite of that tomato". The very purpose of the word "дескать" is to show that it is said by the third person.
