Хорошо, всё должно выглядеть так, что на твоё образование не жалко никаких денег.

Alright then, we have to make it look like no expense was spared on your education.

А если в настоящем, можно сказать "no expense IS spared"?

"Your uncle left you a fortune on the condition that no expense is spared on your education"

Ага, значит, можно в любом времени. Ясно, спасибо.

Uly, No expense is spared - ничего не потрачено. А здесь "не жалко денег", т.е. For your education any money can be spent

Elena, I agree, except that "any money can be spent" isn't idiomatic. We say "no expense is spared" in this situation.

Uly, this is an example of the British colloquial, isn't it?
A formal American, it seems, would be that:
"All right, we must make them believe that we spare no expense on your education."
or,
"All right, everything must look as if we spare no expense on your education."
Formal British:
"To begin with, everything must look as if no expense is spared in your education."
Right?
The reason is that "хорошо" is a discourse marker in the Russian original sentence.

WS: I don't think any version is identifiably one dialect over the other - I think they're all pretty neutral. Both dialects use "like" and "as if" interchangeably in discourse, and whether you write "all right" or "alright," they both sound identical in speech. Also, my sentence represents what I would personally say, so by virtue of that alone, it's NOT British :)
