Вообоще, мне кажется, что смысл этой фразы в том, что человек много бы дал, чтобы узнать о чем-то раньше всех. Если это так, то перевод может быть таким:

Elena, BEING AWARE is an involuntary state of mind and not an active effort. In this sentence, for example, you would have to make this active by saying: I'd pay a lot TO BE MADE AWARE OF THIS in advance.
