¿Cómo traducir? (ru-en)

If you knew that you were going to have a sleepless night, you'd have fallen asleep like a baby even in a daytime.

If you'd known that you would be up all night, you would've fallen asleep like a baby during the day/in the daytime(?).

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 4 years ago

Grumbler.))

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 4 years ago

grumblerpublicó un comentario 4 years ago

+++Tatiana ...in for a sleepless night, you would’ve DOZED OFF...during the day/earlier in the day. 👍🏼

FALL ASKEEP is involuntary. In this case, I think they mean to take a nap in the middle of the day.

IN FOR 👍🏼 👍🏼

>FALL ASLEEP is involuntary.🙏

In this context, you can use KNEW or HAD KNOWN with no change in the meaning.

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 4 years ago

Grammatically, the past perfect sounds better, but idiomatically, they both work.

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 4 years ago

Do you mean there's no difference about grammar whether that sentence refers to the last night or the next night?

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 4 years ago

If we’re talking about the past, you can say KNEW or HAD KNOWN with no change in meaning: [talking about yesterday] “If I knew/had known that you were coming by, I would have made that cake you like so much.”

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 4 years ago

"If we’re talking about the past, you can say KNEW or HAD KNOWN with no change in meaning...".
[If + the simple past][would + the simple infinitive] о настоящем и будущем;
[If + the past perfect] [would + the perfect infinitive] 😶😶
