I took to English like a duck to water
?
That would mean that when you started learning it, it came really easy to you. If that fits here, then absolutely. But since they mentioned speaking specifically, I got the impression they were past the study phase and actually felt at ease expressing themselves in English.
Uly, does the same refer to the "in my element"?
IN MY ELEMENT is good - it means that you’re perfectly comfortable
🙏
Am I correct in interpreting this as being comfortable speaking/using English, and not as finding it easy as you’re learning it?
Absolutely! I don't know about anyone who studies English and is perfectly at ease speaking it. While Marat Loikov, for example, is still learning English, he's probably perfectly at ease speaking it because he's already past the study phase in the conventional sense.
