But why ‘баню’ ? Is it used as an euphemism instead of sth unpleasant ?

Russian people used to clean their bodies and souls in banya (Russian bath) and they say that after the last visitor would leave evil spirits would gather in banya. The expression иди в баню is also eqiuvalent to go to hell.
