entered a convent

"Went into a convent" is also used, although not as frequently as "entered"
https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=went+into+a+convent%2Centered+a+convent&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Cwent%20into%20a%20convent%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Centered%20a%20convent%3B%2Cc0
In our case with the poetess, she escaped from her misery by entering a convent. I think "going away" is the main action she took, while "entering" is just a means of her escape. That's why I believe that she went, not entered

The way I see it, she could have gone to the convent for succor without necessarily becoming a nun.

Uly, when we say "уйти в монастырь" it usually means "to take the veil"

Aha, then ENTER and GO INTO are both good.
