This is what a man or woman says to explain how far two people went "physically" (sexually or referring to physical altercations: "He kissed me on the neck and touched my breast - that's as physical as we got" or "One guy threw a punch at the bartender, but the police took him away - that's about as physical as it got, thank God!" But I didn't get the second example. Can You, please, explain more?

GC, when we say "things got physical" it can mean to things: (1) there was touching involved, of a sexual nature; or (2) there was touching involved of a pugilistic nature - people started fighting: Everyone was arguing, then one man threw a chair and things got physical. (=people started fighting).
