I seriously think that speaking French as your first language does something to your speaking apparatus that makes it virtually impossible to master the pronunciation of any other language beyond say 75%. I’ve held this theory for years. Even French Canadians who are exposed to both languages all their lives have a certain “twang” that immediately gives them away.

What I meant was that French in France are notorious for their unwillingness to speak English to foreigners even if they know it. Given this, it would be really surprising if they used English to speak between themselves.
