When it’s only one action, the past and the perfect are interchangeable. We only use the perfect when we need to emphasize that one thing has been done before something else can be done/take place: [CEO]: I’d like to hear more about your program, Griffin, will you join me for lunch? [Griffin]: I already had lunch, but thank you. | I’ve already had lunch, but perhaps I can order a dessert and coffee and tell you about the program while you eat.
