Andrey, not too good :(

Почему вы упустили в своём переводе фразу "неприятно"? В вашем варианте получается перевод: нельзя игнорировать людей вместо неприятно, когда тебя игнорируют.

Передумал, ваш перевод идеален)

Really?:) I remember you said you were American. You just said my translation wasn't good and now you change your opinion so easily:)

⦿ ULYadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

I am American, I'm just not in the mood to argue. But if you really want to know what I think of your translation, (and judging from your smileys, you're not looking to argue either) I'll explain: Grammatically, it's 100% correct, but idiomatically, it's not something we would say in that situation. (1) The question form you used anticipates a negative answer, like "неужели ты не хочешь...?" But aside from that, we wouldn't use a question at all. We would make a statement - like I did. "if you don't,... just tell me." (2) "you don't wish" is too "nice" for this context; (3) "(not) have any business" doesn't mean the same as "not have anything to do with someone." (4) "just tell me THAT" isn't quite idiomatic. It's "just tell me." (5) "unpleasant' is one of those words that Russians use continuously, but English speakers don't. We would say "It's not nice to..." -or- "You don't ... people" (= разумеется because it's "unpleasant"). Let me know if you have any questions.

You are right I didn't mean to start an argument:) It's just when u said my translation wasn't good I thought you meant grammatically bad. But you should take into account the fact that I'm not a native speaker and I never been abroad before so it is natural for me to be not quite idiomatic:) but when I skype with my American friends they all tell me my English is excellent. So I easily get confused when people correct my translation:)

⦿ ULYadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

I understand exactly what you mean because I have the same issues with Russian. I love it when people correct me because I don't speak Russian, I only read and write it, so it's not always idiomatic. But there are some users on here that become offended when I try to help them. Your English is very good, I must say.

⦿ ULYadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

So if you'd like, I'll help you with your idioms: HAVE NO BUSINESS. This basically means to have no right to do something -or- that something is a bad idea: "You had no business telling my wife you saw me at the beach yesterday. Now she knows I lied about being out of town!" (= you had no right). [Father to daughter] "We don't know what kind of person Andrey is. You have no business going to his place alone. (= I think it's a bad idea).

JUST TELL ME is used to give someone the option to "opt out" of something: "If you don't feel like going, just tell me. I can find a million guys that are dying to take me to the party." Or the option to join in: "If you want to come with us to the Vegas for the party of the century, just tell me. There's room in the car for one more."

Thank you. I'm not offended when ppl correct me sometimes I just get confused when my mistakes are not quite obvious just like those we are discussing right now and I always try to understand where I was wrong. I actually appreciate it when others correct my mistakes it helps me to improve my skills.

⦿ ULYadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

YOU DON'T JUST is used to give an example of something that isn't nice to do: "The next time we plan to spend time together and something comes up, just tell me. You don't just not show up."

⦿ ULYadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

Good, well there you are! Let me know if you need me to explain anything else.

Андрей Бессоновadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

It's good to learn something new:) That's not something that our professors teach us in Russian schools:)

⦿ ULYadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

I'm glad I could help 👍🏼

Андрей Бессоновadicionou o comentário 7 лет назад

Well if you by any chance notice my mistakes I would gladly accept your critics. It's always better to be criticized by native English speakers:)
