I really hope everyone doesn't feel this way about Americans and American English. I want everyone here to know that although I'm American, I would never mislead anyone or provide anything less that the most correct, up-to-date and idiomatic examples of Modern English. .

I appreciate that, Yefim!
Nastya makes very good translations but why she didn't trust Uly this time, it's strange. Uly, of course, you are a linguist and you love the language, apart from being a native speaker.

Thank you, Elena. I don't feel like everyone has to agree with me, but she was downright insulting and hurtful. I don't feel like I "talk bollocks."
Of course, not. You help us a lot and I really appreciate it.
Thank you, sweetie. We help EACH OTHER, and that's the main thing.
And I stand by my translation and comments:
Please don't misunderstand me, it's not about you Uly.
In general there're lots of native speakers who speak a wrong native language in every country. The same with the Russian language. Sometimes people talk nonsense and don't even know that its completely wrong. They are absolutely sure of their ideal knowledge. That's why being a native speaker doesn't automatic mean an ideal language. Again, I mean in general.
More over, it's not always about trying to teach someone. No one is ideal, people can make faults, be not enough attentive or just forget something. I'm one if them 😊 My problem for example is a so called language interference plus no time and weak concentration because of my baby.
Probably, it's not wrong to discuss (!) in order people to remember or learn something.
It's not polite of Nastya. She could hold her American allergy inside...
I agree with you 100% Irina. Just like there are Americans who don't manage the language "perfectly," there are Brits who don't either. So for this woman to label an entire nation as illiterates is just unconscionable. And then to add insult to injury, she accuses me of talking bollocks - a 53 year old man, with 35 years experience as a professional translator and editor. So disrespectful!
She will be in Trump's ban list. I'm kidding
Hahaha
Uly :-) Keep calm, there're everywhere such people :-) it's not worth to pay attention to them although it can be quite painful.
I have here "an admire" who is probably sure that I'm a stupid, not educated one and even a lady of easy virtue so to say. He tries to throw mud on me, my knowledge, life and profesdional experience as well as on my translations. But such people are not able to understand that they show themselves as a poor person...
So I would recommend you to be philosophical at such moments 😊
As for me, I'm glad to have chance to read your opinion and to communicate with you too here :-) wish you a nice evening :-)
Thank you, sweetheart. You're right, I shouldn't take it personally. The main thing is that I love helping all of you with English whenever I can. And I appreciate all of your help with Russian too.
Uly, is our guide of English
A title I respect and cherish. Thank you Leonid.
If that cheers you up a little, I want to say, that to have such an expert like you, Uly, helping me and the others here to master our skills, explaining all the nuances of the English language like you do, is a real luck! I am actually new on here, it's been just a couple of days, since I registered, and I've learnt so much from you already. All because of your comments, it's a pure delight to read them. Such detailed explanations, and you deal with the subject in very depth, so that no further discussion is required. I appreciate all your time and effort you put to teach us. Большое человеческое спасибо))))
Aww, thank you, Jane, that means the world to me. There are so many talented people on here that it's a pleasure to be able to contribute in some way. Thanks again for your sweet words : )
My dear, as usual, I support you 100% ☺️
Deep respect and admiration from me too!
Thank you both!
Thumbs up! :)
I don't actually understand what was bad about what Webster had changed in the English spelling system. At least, he was the one who tried to deal with the terrible orphography there is in a language extremely non-phonemic.
There was nothing bad about it, Vlad, those were the ravings of an idiot looking to justify her bigotry.
Yes, Mentioning the works of Webster, which I personally agree to, without proper consideration! That's what it means. Every rationally intelligent Englishman, American, Canadian, New Zealander, Australian, etc. Realizes the very fact that the orphography/spelling of theirlanguage needs proper revision, that there are inconsistencies in it that prevent young learnerns of their native language from fast mastering of reading/writing skills in comparison with their peers speaking in some other languages thatare more phonemic (spelling corresponds to pronunciation better)
For instanse:
What's about canceled vs cancelled, color vs colour?
Yes, they are Amercan way of spelling some words.
Absolutely. I couldn't agree with you more.
