¿Cómo traducir? (ru-en)

Нет, уж это извини!

Traducciones de usuarios (1)

  1. 1.

Sorry, no way! Sorry, I can't give it to you! Sorry, you're asking too much

    El comentario del traductor

We say it, for example, when a person asks too much and you explain that you can give a lot, but not everything, that he asks something beyond your possibilities or he doesn't deserve what he asks

Thank you! I never would have guessed that :)

I don't know if the Brits say the same thing, but in a situation like that, we say "no dice!": A: Hey, I have another date tonight, can I leave Amy with you for the evening? B: Sorry, no dice! I have a life too, you know.

My pleasure to return you the favour to a just little extent :)

You're sweet)

No dice is "Не получится, без шансов". Нет, уж это извини - means the person has already done something or can do something else but is not ready to do this favour, it is said with some slight irritation.

Exactly - as in my little dialog above. The girl is sick of babysitting every time her sister has a date, so she says "Sorry, no dice! I have a life too, you know."

In other words, it means "forget it! I'm not doing this again!"

Then you're right, your version fits.

- Ты можешь отвезти меня завтра в аэропорт?
- Конечно, а во сколько?
- В 5 утра.
- Ого, ну ладно.
- Слушай, а можешь еще за моей подругой заехать?
- Нет, уж это извини.
When this phrase is used in Russian it is understood that the person did some favour and not even once but he's not ready to go too far.

One person squeezes another petson - can you do this for me? and this? and this? and the other person agrees and then he understands this is too much and refuses in the end

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 8 лет назад

Ahh, ok! Then it's not the same as no dice. You're right. In that case, we say, "Hold on, that's a bit much." -or- "Sorry, that's a bit much." We say this when the requests are one after the other and get to be too much. However, when the requests are repeated, and then you ask again, THEN we say "no dice." So in summary, "that's a bit much" means NO MORE, and "no dice" means NOT AGAIN.

Thank you, Elena for being so patient!

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario 8 лет назад

You're welcome, Uly! It's interesting to me too. By the way, we can aslo say in the same situation: "Ну, это уже слишком" which is a literal translation of "Hold on, that's a bit much."

What an intriguing topic you touched upon! Thanks a lot, Uly and Elena! By the way, it might easily be " Нет уж, извини!" or " Ну уж, извини!" and mean refusal of any kind.

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario 8 лет назад

Hallo, Tatiana! I agree, there may be variations for the refusal, but if "это" is present in the phrase it implies that something was accepted before and the last request is too much. Right?

🤝 Have a good sleep, btw 😀
