Oleg, somehow that seems a little unlikely. Ignore means to not pay attention to something, not to not do something.

Uly, why can not? what about can't?
Can we say "I can skip it?"

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 4 years ago

There’s a difference in meaning between “I can’t do it” and “I can not do it” - the former expresses an inability, the latter the option of not doing something.

“I can skip it” doesn’t sound quite natural

Russ Spublicó un comentario 4 years ago

What a subtle nuance between can't and can not. Do (the majority of) native speakers really know it? Or only linguists?

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 4 years ago

We all know it - we know how to say it, but not everyone knows how to write it. There’s a difference between CANNOT and CAN NOT that not everyone realizes.

Could you explain the difference between CANNOT and CAN NOT?
