¿Cómo traducir? (en-ru)

The bigger the wave, the better the ride. Some surfers will ride waves up to 50 feet in height! Staying on the surfboard is critical, because a bad wipeout can be ugly.

  1. 1.

Чем больше волна, тем лучше райд/прокат. Некоторым сёрферам ничего не стоит оседлать волну до 50 футов в высоту. Старайтесь удержаться на доске, потому что вайпаут чреват травмами.

Elena, what does this imply: вам мало не покажется

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 5 лет назад

Елена, ride a wave - это оседлать волну (термин).

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario 5 лет назад

мало не покажется ~ it'll be a big failure

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario 5 лет назад

ride - это "кататься", "ехать"

В обиходе серфингистов много транслитерированных терминов из английского языка.

It means that it can result in injuries

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 5 лет назад

Thank you. That was the toughest part. :)

The interpretation of UGLY usually depends on the context. It's like the worst possible outcome. If you're talking about a divorce between a wealthy couple, for example, you can say "this is going to be/get ugly" because there's so much money at stake and maybe the man was a womanizer or a criminal, etc. It implies that the divorce is going to take a long time and horrible things are going to come up. In the context of this post, however, the "ugliest" logical scenario is bodily injury to the surfer if he falls off the surfboard.

I personally liked Elena's кататься, but I guess if you can use a noun in that sentence, it sounds better in Russian too.

heart from me)))

So, you think чреват травмами isn't accurate enough?

I I think it’s fine.

Uly, I'd always prefer Russian words over foreign ones, unless someone's talking about their activities and using special terms. That looks like a surfer talking to someone about their hobby. I was once surprised to see how many words derived from English they use. Here they say испортить райд.

I can't imagine them saying испортили катание, just because it would sound off.
