I'm not sure if I got your question right, but I'll try to share my thoughts. Even though the russian version has a general meaning, it can also be used in your particular example. So, your version is better. If the original sentence had been constucted as ” не все ЭТИ приведения опасны" , my version would probably have been more appropriate.

Anyway, when it comes to using an article in English, I just go with you. ))

You're right, it can mean both. Your version is totally accurate, Uly, though we would probably say something like "но не все из них опасны". But still your version would make total sense too.
