it's an extract from some novel. Балюстрадный пишется с одной "л"

this one majes sime kind of sense, you know. баллюстрада is balustrade, so баллюстрадные зрители may be "spectators, standing along the balustrade". as to "да" - sometimes it is used instead of "и". it's a bit oldfasioned, but still exists. so you'll get someting along the lines "and with/by spectators standing along the balustrade on both sides".

It was precisely да that raised my doubts. Where can I find a compilation of old usage? Maybe I shall start a fresh post - am sure that will interest quite a few learners! ;) thanks for all the reply
