I think yes, the idea is not to save money by buying cheap, but instead to have enough money by investing, so there is no need to bother with day-to-day expenses

I think the pun would be lost in English unless it was something like:
A: Let’s go to Walmart — they’re having a sale on socks.
B: No thank you — I buy stocks, not socks 😝
