In the USA the dollar sign is placed before the amount, so the correct order is $10.000.

I'd like to add that there are two types of delimiter used in math in the US or GB. First is a period to separate a decimal part of a number such as 3.14 (three point fourteen). Second is a comma to separate groups of thousands such as 1,000,000 (one million).

So if it's the case one might want to write $10,000 for ten thousand US dollars.
