They had nothing relevant to that. People were offered a choice and they did it. (?)
Они здесь не причём. Людям предложили выбор, и они его сделали

Ни при чём
Thank you!!
👍🏼😉
It wasn’t their fault at all. People were given choice and they made up their mind.
they did it
Why not 'made' ?
Я бы понял did, если бы
"Людям предложили СДЕЛАТЬ выбор (/ВЫБРАТЬ), and they DID it (=СДЕЛАЛИ выбор/ ВЫБРАЛИ)"
однако,
Людям предложили ВЫБОР, и они сделали ВЫБОР = made IT
Кстати уважаемый Улий, обычно ты сторонник лаконичности. Почему вместо THEY DIDN’T HAVE ANYTHING не сказать THEY HAD NOTHING. И ты не ответил Грамблеру почему DID, а не MADE.
Grumbler, sorry, I hadn’t seen your question above. The fact is that we don’t know what they’re talking about. We don’t know what THEY are - that have nothing to do with it, and we don’t know despite what choice they did or made something. Without context, this is open to any interpretation.
Евгений, you may have noticed that I usually provide three of more translations when there is a proper context. In this case, there is absolutely no difference between THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH and THEY DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH and I chose one. I don’t only advocate succinctness and word economy, I mostly promote IDIOMATICITY - and sometimes that requires more words, and sometimes less words. I suggest that instead of mocking me, you stop “translating” what you don’t know and start learning from me.
Grumbler, the way I interpreted this, его doesn’t refer to выбор, but to whatever it is they did/made.
Репсиме, не могли бы вы объяснить контекст этого загадочного высказывания?
Не переживай Улий, я учусь. Но ты ведь тоже не всё знаешь ни даже в английском, ни тем более в русском?! Нам всем есть чему учиться, чувак))
Honey, when it comes to English, in all humility, there’s very little I DON’T know. And, in all humility, when it comes to Russian there’s a shitload I don’t know, which is why, again, I limit my translation into Russian, and am always open to correction. You need to spread yourself a little thicker on here. Stick to translating into Russian, чувак.
👍 no probs, honey)
Grumbler, the way I interpreted this, его doesn’t refer to выбор, but to whatever it is they did/made.
No. они ЕГО сделали = они сделали ВЫБОР. This is the only possible interpretation.
they chose to make it = они выбрали (/решили) сделать выбор
IMO, this is incorrect interpretation either
Thank you. Then I completely misunderstood this.
they chose to make it = они выбрали (/решили) сделать выбор
IMO, this is incorrect interpretation either.
Им предложили выбрать (сделать выбор) (из предложенных вариантов) и он выбрали (сделали выбор) (из того, что им предлагали). Они вовсе не решали делать выбор или нет.
Если честно, я больше ничего не понимаю.
IIRC, your first translation was fine if you just replaced 'did' with 'made'.
BTW, I guess I should have said "was incorrect TOO" or "wasn't correct EITHER". Right?
they did it = они это сделали
they made it = они его сделали (= они сделали выбор)
yes, TOO
