Help please. Is everything correct in this sentence:? - “ The mining of tin and china clay is important AS is the production of early fruit, vegetables and flowers.” I ‘m not sure about the word “as”. Is it appropriate here? What about the word “so “ instead of “as”?

as is correct here, it is the inversion in the following part of the sentence
as well as would change the meaning here, imho
... is as important as... ¿
The mining of tin and china clay is important,<-[comma] AS is the production of early fruitS, vegetables and flowers.”
AS IS/ARE означает А ТАКЖЕ. SO бы в этом контексте не звучало. Кроме этого, все вроде в порядке, только лично PRODUCTION почему-то мне не нравится.
In this context, the word IS is stressed and the word AS is weakened from [æz] to [ez]. So we have the phonological word [ezIZ] meaning, again, а также.
"As-is" всё спутало! 🙂
Ули, 👍
We also have AS IS meaning in exactly the condition it’s in, which is pronounced like two separate stressed words: I’ll sell you this car as is for $500. [‘æ:z ‘i:z]
“This car is $500 as is, as is that red car over there.” [ˈfaɪv hʌndrɪd ˈdɑ:lɚz ˈæ:z ˈɪ:z | ɛzˌɪ(:)z ˈðæt…]
А можно заменить так ?:
.... mining the clay is important AS WELL AS the production of early fruit,
That doesn’t sound too good. AS IS refers to IMPORTANT, AS WELL AS would refer to another noun: “Mining clay is important, as well as (mining) TIN.”
Ясно, сравниваются другие вещи. 👍
You could even say: “Silver is expensive, as is gold as well.” (=silver is expensive, and gold is (expensive) too)
Спасибо огромное. 😊🌹
My pleasure, Nick))
is same important as production of crop ()
улий fruit is singular form, isn't it?
Fruit can be singular or plural depending on the context
if talking about result yes, fruits , but in this abovementioned case I'd say fruit
I would disagree... they’re talking about different crops/sorts of fruits, vegetables and flowers and not referring to these as a general class.
