This is an idiom, in which a person to avoid is likened to a storm or hurricane, and the speaker expresses every intention of doing whatever it takes to stay out of his path (we usually talk about the path of a hurricane or tornado, etc.). The person in question either generally has a bad disposition, or is in a bad mood for some reason and is to be avoided for the time being. "Anything," in this context, is short for "I would do anything in order to..." -or- "I would use any excuse to..."
