If the request was for "midsummer" then your translation is TOTALLY correct. Aleh is talking about summer solstice, but the request wasn't for this term, it was for "midsummer" which for many cultures means exaclty what you wrote. And I doubt that the Americans even use this term "midsummer" when talking about the summer solstice.

Midsummer IS selebrated by several cultures on the day of summer solstice, and it's called "midsummer" = "середина лета" by those cultures. So when you wrote "день летнего солнцестояния это не середина лета" you were wrong, not Elena.
