Paddington Bearadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

Modern Brits hardly ever drink tea. They drink coffee. Or beer! Lol.

Alexander Аkimovadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

Even if they do, why just a single cup, and where, and when? Can’t catch the meaning of the phrase... 🤥

Paddington Bearadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

I know. It's quite annoying to deal with crippled phrases like this one. Do people think we're mindreaders here?

Alexander Аkimovadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

I can believe that some of Brits still do drink tea, some drink coffee or beer. But who drinks a cup or a glass of anything?

Alexander Аkimovadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

Paddington Bearadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

In theory, they can have "a cuppa" as a stress relief tool.

Your neighbour knocks on your door:
A: I don't know what to do... it looks like l've just locked myself out!
B: Oh, come on in! Do you want a cup of tea?

Paddington Bearadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

Alexander Аkimovadicionou o comentário 5 years ago

No, it goes some other way:
British people traditionally knock on your door:
A: We don't know what to do... it looks like we’ve just locked ourselves out!
B: Oh, come on in! Do you want a cup of tea?
And traditionally, the British people drink a cup of tea.

grumbleradicionou o comentário 5 years ago

grumbleradicionou o comentário 5 years ago

Traditionally, British people have a cup of tea ______________________ five o’clock
