A good dancer can be Cuban and it wouldn’t be surprising - it’s the being Russian that warrants the dichotomy with “may be”

The original was "chicken" - "hero" (i.e. contrast)

Именно поэтому я и сказал вначале, что не очень понимаю смысл.
В твоем примере смысла гораздо больше.

Forget all that - the original dichotomy is that something that’s chicken, is not expected to be a hero. That was the logic you were questioning. By the same token, someone who’s not latin isn’t expected to dance better than a cuban.
