Rileggere oggi le parole di Craxi – riportate all’epoca dai quotidiani – fa semplicemente piangere: qualcuno ricorda una sola sillaba, di tenore paragonabile, pronunciata negli ultimi decenni da uno qualsiasi dei famosi campioni dell’Unione Europea? Siamo sgovernati da infimi ragionieri e grigi yesmen al servizio del capitale finanziario neoliberista che i tipi come Craxi li ha esiliati in Tunisia, trasformandoli in profughi politici – corsi e ricorsi, nell’amara ironia della storia: importiamo derelitti, dopo aver cacciato leader autorevoli e dotati di visione strategica.

Ingenti prestiti da parte delle organizzazioni finanziari internazionali, consistenti sgravi del debito statale, fondi raccolti da iniziative private, che hanno mobilitato tutti, dai singoli cittadini occidentali attraverso forme organizzate di beneficenza alle star dello spettacolo, che si sono spese per i diritti dei più deboli attraverso concerti ed esibizioni.

It helps all of the other characters are so annoying. There’s Peach Salinger (fictional cousin of the celebrated author), Beck’s heiress best friend who is also obsessed with her, and Anikka, who is spot-on as the self-absorbed influencer. From Beck's creepy professor to her pretentious writing mentor/competitor, Blythe (Hari Nef), most of these people are indeed so reprehensible that you do end up, disturbingly, rooting for Joe.
