I guess there's a context for everything. Conceivably, if I was married to Elena and we went through a horrible divorce, I could run into a friend who hadn't seen me for a long time and he could remark on how bad I looked and ask me what happened, and I couldn't respond "Elena happened to me, that's what!" But under everyday, normal, circumstances, this post doesn't make any sense. I wonder if there's more context.
😁
I could respond?
Huh?
I meant that you wrote "I couldn't respond" but I think there should be "I could respond"
@Uly "under everyday, normal, circumstances, this post doesn't make any sense"
I think in both Russian and English it's a poetic expression rather than colloquial.
Right, in Russian we don't say in such a way either
Well THAT'S good to know! 😓
