Ули, это выражение обычно используется в переносном значении. Т.е. когда человек не может объективно оценить что-то, и нужен свежий взгляд

Like losing perspective because you're too close to a situation?

Elena Bogomolovaadded a comment 8 years ago

No, it's when you do something for a long time you get accustomed to it and stop seeing flaws or vice versa, the beauty, i.e. stop seeing whether you do it well or not. You need then smb.'s fresh look from the outside

Yes, exactly, we call that losing perspective :)

Elena Bogomolovaadded a comment 8 years ago

Yes, that's it. It's in general.
What about small things? For example, I prepare a contract. I make corrections, then reread, then again make corrections. All day long. Then I understand I can't already notice whether there are mistakes or not. So, I say to my colleague" У меня замылился глаз уже, посмотри, нужно еще что-то подправить или нет". How to say this?

Aha, that's also losing perspective, but we have a expression for that situation: "I can't see the forest for the trees. Can you see if anything needs correcting?"

О, мы ведь тоже говорим: за деревьями леса не видеть. Здорово! :)

Но, как я поняла, это другое, чем в ситуации Елены. Когда кто-то за мелочами общую картину не видит. Это о стереотипах.
