Maybe they say I am from Missouri (show-me -state) in the situation when they are not willing to trust somebody saying something without good arguments?

Even people who didn't hail from that state could be heard to say that they ARE from that state. Why do they do it? What do they mean?

Yes, Евгения, that's exactly what they say and what it means. Great job! Harry Truman kept a sign with that phrase on his desk and the reverse of the sign said "The buck stops here"
and I was so close. even tried to find something that rhymes with Missouri. But I had no time on the morning to reply. maybe next time =)
Yeah, the time difference sucks) I'll try to post my stuff as late as possible, Igor.
Btw, the name Yuri will work fine. It would be the classic limericks ending "Yuri -- that remarkable man from Missouri" ;-)
That's a good one! Thank you! I was desperate enough to try to do it in Russian "Старикашка из штата Миссури -- Очень много выкуривал дури..."
Haha looks like it would be a masterpiece if put in Russian.
