This song is about Judas betraying Jesus. He speaks as if they were sailors on a ship on a journey. Judas says he was "down in the hold," which is where they used to send sailors as punishment - away from all the other sailors (=apostles).

Это называется "быть в заточении" :) "Я был внизу, в тюрьме" по-русски звучит слишком неестественно.

Это я перевел буквально, чтобы объяснить смысл песни. Ведь это не идиоматическое выражение, просто текст.

Uly, ещё один вопрос.
In “The Hands That Built America” at the end: “Innocence, dragged across a yellow line”. Does “yellow line” stand for a frontier inevitable not to cross as committing the act of vengeance?

I can't really say. I'm not familiar with this song. The only thing that comes to mind is the yellow tape they use to mark off a crime scene. No idea ;)
