Sasha, you don’t need to context here. It can be anything. For instance, they open a box of cupcakes and the speaker already knows they want the red one and they say “dibs on that one!“

I don't know if this exists in Russian, but in English, when people (especially children) "call dibs" on something, the rule is that nobody else can have it. You can "call dibs on shotgun" meaning that you get to sit in the passenger seat. So it doesn't simply mean "I want that one," it means "that one is mine because I said the magic word — dibs".

Yes, I got it from the local dictionary when trying to find the meaning. In Russian, the magic word is ЧУР: "Чур! Я на переднем сиденьи!" "Чур! Это мой кусок!"

Да, мы в детстве говорили «чур, моё». Много позднее я слышала «я забил это», и все употребляли «забить» в смысле «застолбить/зарезервировать».

Или "Это я застолбил!"

Ну вот как-то «забил» больше у меня на слуху.

Я только "забил на" знаю - перестал этим интересовпться или это делать.
