Also, "potty-train" sounds more like training kids to use the toilet (приучать к горшку, while the Russian (сажать на горшок) implies just making them sit on the potty, if this makes sense.))

I don’t know about the Russian, but COMBINE in English works on the principle of join your knowledge to that of someone else in the hopes that the “combined” knowledge base of two or more people will be stronger and more effective than that of just one individual.
