Areg, the Russian version is already in the comments 😉

Areg, so much being SAID about - "так много говорят о", а не "так много сказано о".

Areg Musinyanadded a comment 4 years ago

To me, так много сказано looks like “so much HAS BEEN said.” However, here the speaker is referring to the fact that so much IS BEING SAID/SPOKEN about the virus that he’s starting to think HE has it.

Areg Musinyanadded a comment 4 years ago

No difference! The notion is the same))

Получается, если 'так много говорят', то there is so much being told, а если так много сказано, тогда being said?

We don’t use TOLD in this context. And we say I’M STARTING TO THINK...

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 years ago

so much is being said

ну в моем случае: так много говорят о ковиде (по тв, сми, интернете, на улице) и продолжают говорить, there is so much being told, не подходит?

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 years ago

There is so much being said

I’m not here to argue - I’m here to teach anyone who wants to be taught. You have my answers above.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 years ago

I’ll explain the difference. It’s a question of VALENCE. The verb SAY has a valence of two: it requires a SPEAKER and an OBJECT: “my (1) MOTHER said (2) HELLO.” The verb TELL, on the other hand, has a valence of 3: it requires a SPEAKER, an OBJECT and a RECIPIENT: “My (1) MOTHER told (2) ME about her (3) ACCIDENT.” In this post, TELL couldn’t be used because there’s no stated recipient. We COULD however say “THE AMERICAN PUBLIC is being told SO MUCH about THE CORONAVIRUS that they’re starting to think they all have it.”
