She doesnt have to go to the lessons

Tanya Ilyinaadded a comment 5 years ago

She doesn’t have to attend the lessons

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 5 years ago

DOESN’T HAVE TO or MUSTN’T? There’s a big difference.

Tanya Ilyinaadded a comment 5 years ago

Но ведь есть момент когда они равнозначны?

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 5 years ago

на английском нету

Tanya Ilyinaadded a comment 5 years ago

А как по твоему поставить must в past simple? Мы ведь берём have to

Tanya Ilyinaadded a comment 5 years ago

She didn’t have to attend the lessons

Tanya Ilyinaadded a comment 5 years ago

Она ее должна была посещать уроки

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 5 years ago

It depends on the meaning: SHE DIDN’T HAVE TO attend class -vs- SHE WAS NOT TO attend class.

Tanya Ilyinaadded a comment 5 years ago

То есть для must эквивалент в past simple - to be to?

Russ Sadded a comment 5 years ago

Tanya, В вашем вопросе есть двойной смысл.

1. Она не должна ходить на занятия (потому, что ей запрещено или не рекомендуется?)
или
2. Она не должна ходить на занятия (потому, что это не является обязательным предметом для неё? то есть ходит или на выбор)

Теперь скажите в каком смысле вы спрашивали?

Tanya Ilyinaadded a comment 5 years ago

Это не мой вопрос

Russ Sadded a comment 5 years ago

Sorry, I didn't notice.

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadded a comment 5 years ago

Согласна. Русское предложение неоднозначно.
Не должна = не нужно/необязательно¿ (Она вундеркинд и на экстернате.)
Не должна = (ей) нельзя¿ неё ОРВИ.)

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 5 years ago

So it can be both in Russian?

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 5 years ago

The past form of MUSTN’T GO is WAS NOT TO GO

Russ Sadded a comment 5 years ago

Yes, it just one Russian phrase that encapsulates 2 meanings. But it won't be ambiguous because the Russian speakers will exactly know what that means based on previous communication or based on how this statement was originated.

...according to the context. Good to know! Thank you))
