люди УХОДИЛИ от меня.
"неоднократно были случаи" - sounds too formal, like a police report - неоднократное нарушение закона.
A version: В моей жизни часто случалось, что (люди) меня бросали без всякой видимой причины.

In that version it just seemed to me that люди бросали меня was the focus of the utterance, when it should be не раз случалось, что...
