unfiltered leader of a son

Author’s comment

Dedication

For my parents,

who kindly put up with an orchid, hopeful monster,

unfiltered leader of a son.

What the heck does that mean, you ask?

Well, we better get started . .

    Translator's comment

Посвящается моим родителям, которые как-то мирились с необычным, подающим надежды, монстром, неформальным лидером и, по совместительству, сыном.

"Что это всё означает?" - спрашиваете Вы

    "Просто, начнём."

The pattern [NOUN] of a [NOUN] is used when designations are used to describe someone instead of adjectives: nothing is worse than a tyrannical, sadistic, stupid boss --> nothing is worse than a tyrant, sadist, idiot of a boss. In this post, the nouns ORCHID, MONSTER and LEADER are there to describe the son. This is why English can be such a nightmare OF A LANGUAGE)))

So the correct translations should be терпели сына, который был... [ряд существительных]

ORCHID is used figuratively to describe something that will one day "bloom" - I guess in this story, the son tried a lot of ways to become successful and they parents believed and him and encouraged him because they knew that one day, it would all pay off and he be a success.

Терпели и мирились - здесь - синонимы, даже без оттенков.
