When you meet somebody as a potential romantic interest, as you get to know each other, there are things that turn you on (attract you), and there are things that turn you off (make you lose interest) about that person. For example, a guy who mistreats his mom is a definite turnoff. A girl who spends 45 minutes putting on make up and fixing her hair just to take a walk with you is a definite turnoff. The last girl I dated told me I should grow a mustache because her ex-boyfriend had one and it looked really good on him. She also had a picture of him as the background on her phone. Talk about a turnoff!

You see TURNOFF and TURN-OFF and some people erroneously write TURN OFF, but the official spelling is the TURNOFF.
