Class - это класс (группа учащихся) и урок/занятие.
Classroom - это класс(ная комната)/кабинет, а также, многое из того, что делает учитель: методы ПРЕПОДАВАНИЯ, атмосфера и т д.

Kartinka, PERIOD is used to refer to an hour in the school day, not necessarily a class. For instance fourth hour can be lunch, fifth hour can be recess, etc. Furthermore “in the classroom 23” is unnatural. Things designated with a number do not take the definite article. If anything, it would be “in classroom number 23,“ but a native referring to a classroom would send a student to “room 23,” for example.
