Это означает «я валил оттуда как можно скорее» в опасной или неловкой ситуации. AROUND в этом контексте передает смысл «долше, чем необходимo»: “The boss is looking for people to work this weekend. I’m leaving at exactly 5:00 and I don’t recommend that you stick around either!”

может быть, просто wait around - это фразовый глагол, имеющий значение 《to stay in a place and do nothing while you wait for someone to arrive or something to happen》(Cambridge Dicrionary) (?)

Yes, that would define wait around in an affirmative sentence - I’m referring more to a negative context “NOT wait around” which takes on a meaning of leaving asap.
